Boston terriers are lively and friendly dogs that make great family pets. Known as “the American Gentleman” for their dapper appearance and gentle disposition, the Boston terrier is one of the few breeds created in the United States. Originally bred as a fighting and ratting dog, the Boston terrier’s ancesters were initially a cross between British bulldogs and English white terriers. These dogs were then selectively bred with French bulldogs to create a more compact dog better suited to the role of a companion. This smaller dog became known as the Boston terrier.
