Ad: Learn why we recommend Spot Pet Insurance

Pet insurance won't cover costs for any condition that your pet showed signs of before the start date of the policy. (Medical records or a vet exam might be required to establish your pet's health). But, pet insurance will cover new conditions and accidents. Also, all the pet insurance plans here will cover conditions that your pet might have been born with but haven't showed up yet. These are called hereditary or congenital conditions. So it's still important to get covered!

Vizsla Pet Insurance

Vizsla

Vizslas are a large, sporty dog native to Hungary. Originally known as the Hungarian Pointer, these dogs were bred to hunt and retrieve. Their high intelligence makes them a versatile worker and they’ve been used in many roles over the last century, including messenger dogs during the First World War.

As part of the ancient “pointer” breed, the Vizsla’s ancestors are thought to have been around since the 10th century. The modern breed we know now started to arrive in the United States soon after World War II, having only narrowly escaped extinction during the war. They were first recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1960.
Along with being a family pet, today the Vizsla continues to work as a guide dog, search and rescue dog, and farm dog.

Vizsla Health: Do they Need a Pet Insurance Plan?

Vizslas are a relatively healthy dog breed; however they are prone to some hereditary illnesses due to their breeding history. When choosing a pet insurance plan it’s important to know about the specific health needs of Vizslas to ensure you are covered for the things you need.
The main health concerns for Vizslas are related to their large size and build; they are prone to hip dysplasia that can require expensive surgery to correct. As Vizslas are a purebred dog this condition is hereditary, some insurers may exclude treatment for this problem, make sure to find a policy with hip dysplasia coverage.
Vizslas are also prone to blood clotting problems, such as hemophilia and Von Willebrand’s disease; these can require expensive treatment but insurance will enable you to be prepared for these situations.

Other Insurance Considerations:

• Vizslas have been bred to hunt and retrieve, their inquisitive natures can make them prone to accidents and injury.

• As they age Vizslas are more likely to develop cancers of the skin, stomach and kidney.

• Vizslas have a higher risk of epilepsy than other breeds.
