Ad: Learn why we recommend Spot Pet Insurance

Pet insurance won't cover costs for any condition that your pet showed signs of before the start date of the policy. (Medical records or a vet exam might be required to establish your pet's health). But, pet insurance will cover new conditions and accidents. Also, all the pet insurance plans here will cover conditions that your pet might have been born with but haven't showed up yet. These are called hereditary or congenital conditions. So it's still important to get covered!

Brittany Pet Insurance

Also Known as Epagneul Breton and Brittany Spaniel

Brittany Dog

The Brittany’s roots go back to Brittany, France, 150 AD and dogs similar in appearance to the modern Brittany are pictured in tapestries and paintings as early as the 17th century. Brittany’s were bred for their hunting abilities and in the 1850’s the Reverend Davies wrote about a hunting and retrieving breed of dog like the Brittany that was particularly popular with poachers.

In the early 1900s, wealthy Englishmen went over to France to hunt, taking their spaniels and setters with them. This fresh blood added a final touches to the Brittany’s sporting ability.
The Brittany spaniel was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1934, with “spaniel” being dropped in 1982, after 38 years of campaigning by the American Brittany Club. The breed is now officially known as the “Brittany”.

Brittany Health: Do they Need an Insurance Plan?

The Brittany is never happier than when chasing through undergrowth. However, this active lifestyle makes him more likely to get into bumps and scrapes. When considering a Brittany, factor into your budget costs such as trips to the vet for stitch-ups or to get embedded grass awns removed.
One of the Brittany’s most unfortunate health problems is a tendency to serious cancers such as melanoma or fibrosarcoma. Consider taking out insurance in order to protect yourself from the expenses of surgery and specialist treatments such as radiotherapy. Modern medicine can do much to extend the life of your beloved pet, but it comes at a price.

Other Insurance Considerations:

• Unneutered male Brittany spaniels are at an increased of hepatoid gland adenoma. Surgery is necessary to remove these lumps, and castration advisable to prevent recurrence.

• Like so many breeds, the Brittany is prone to hip dysplasia. Treatment ranges from pain relieving drugs to hip replacement surgery.

• Brittany’s also suffer from hereditary sight disorders leading to impaired vision or even blindness.
